Stained-Glass Lights with Beads
Glass beads along the lower edge come from a decorative tradition where light is reflected twice.

The shade itself passes light once. The hanging beads catch it a second time and scatter it across the tabletop in small highlights — the effect for which beads appeared on lights long before electricity.
It only works up close and with a warm bulb: cold light turns the beads into glass balls with no depth. On a bedside table or a console the effect reads; under the ceiling it no longer does.
